About AuralFrame
I’m Lloyd and I write film criticism and exploratory film essays on AuralFrame, often (but not always) with a focus on sound.
AuralFrame is my space for close, deliberate criticism. I’m interested in the choices films make and the results those choices produce, especially the parts that can be felt before they can be explained. Sound sits at the centre of that for me, and is an important part of the work I publish.
What you’ll find here
Film criticism
I publish regular reviews of new releases and the occasional revisit. These are designed to be readable, decisive, and informative.
Featured pieces
Alongside reviews, I publish longer essays when a film warrants it. These pieces take longer because I approach them as research-led criticism: spending time exploring ideas that I feel adds perspective rather repeating previous commentary.
Other featured pieces include the exploration of how sound is used in film by focussing on movies as a case study, as well as personal reflections that are led by cinematic influences.
Rhythm
I aim to publish two posts a week. Most weeks that means one review and one featured piece, with the understanding that the longer essays sometimes need time to mature.
Supporting the work
AuralFrame is free to read. If you’d like to support the time that goes into deeper essays and ongoing publishing, you can become a paid subscriber or contribute. Either way, I’m grateful you’re here and reading.
A brief bio
I’m a lifelong cinephile with a particular fascination for the mechanics of feeling. AuralFrame is a body of criticism that reflects how I watch: attentive, curious and serious about cinema as an art form.
